Thanks, Steve. I appreciate the kind words.

You're exactly right in that I have learned a lot in making these reproductions. It forces one to do new things both in forging the blades and with the handle work and I've enjoyed all of it.

Wow! That turned out well Gary. I hope you will have it in September. It amazes me how the makers from hundreds of years ago were able to make the knives they did using none of the fancy tools we have today. Making a knife like this is a learning experience. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Brion. In making this one I often wondered at how the original was made without the tools of today. It just makes you appreciate the skills of the old time makers that much more.

The knife & I made a trip to Little Rock today to visit it's inspiration:

A huge thank you to Lin Rhea, Bill Worthen and all at the museum for their wonderful hospitality & to Lin for the photos.

It was a very special day for me that will be long remembered.

This was a great WIP Gary. I really enjoy seeing any reproduction work. Especially since the history of the real first Bowie is so rich and yet mysterious at the same time.

Thanks everyone. Here's a photo by Chuck Ward that shows the knife better:

Thanks, Lin. And thanks for all of your help with the building of it and for your hospitality last week. You're a credit to the custom knife world and a true gentleman.

I'm looking forward to seeing your version(s) when you're done with them. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Very nice, Thanks for sharing. Seems like I remember seeing some blueprints on this knife at Riverside Machine several years ago. Does anyone know if they are still available for sale?
