Below is a forged full tang hunter. I got the inspiration for this knife from watching one of Nick Rossi's videos on youtube. The specs on the steel are .250 x 1.5 5160. The post forge specs on the knife are a 4.5 Handle and a 6" blade. This is the third knife I forged (the other two ended up in the scrap bin). Currently I am hand filing everything while I save up for a decent 2x72 its slow but it works im just glad to be forging. I will continue to post updates as the process continues. constructive criticism is welcomed because after all it is how we improve. Also this is my first image upload to the forums so bear with me if its terrible I am working to improve that as well. Thank you all for your help and support!

Buenas tardes Devan.

La verdad nada que criticar por mi parte, todos partimos igual, me recordo el biselado que hacia a mis antiguos bowies, no soy un experto ni mucho menos, pero te digo que la practica hace al maestro.

Un abrazo desde Puerto Montt, Chile.

Miguel, Thank you for the reply your absolutely right it does favor a Bowie the more I look at it. I plan on attending one of the intro to bladesmithing classes next spring time, however right now its just seeing what all kind of knife shaped objects i can forge out lol. Nonetheless I appreciate your time and be safe!

Nice start there Devan. What files do you have? Do you have a filing jig of any kind or do you just clamp the blade to a holder?

Hey Joshua, for the moment I am using a piece of metal that I welded into a T joint. I will clamp that in my post vise jaws and then clamp the blade onto that with a C-Clamp. The files I have are an old Black Diamond and some Nicholsons that were my grandfathers. Thank you for your time and reply!

For my hand sanding I use a setup with a small bench vice bolted to the side of the bench. The bottom jaw is basically even with the top of the bench (with a soft jaw) so I can add a piece of 2"x3/8" flat bar. I have a piece of fairly stiff rubber to keep the blade from getting scratched. This would also work for filing the bevels. The bench vice in this position is also great for a variety of other uses when you need to hold an object horizontal.

That looks a lot more stable than the method I am doing. I am going to mount a vice to the side of my bench like this tomorrow and try that. Thank you for the suggestion!
