Hello,

I bought some 5/32 rod and I'm trying to run beads on 2x2 inch steel. I can't get the rods to hold an arc. It's Stoody 1105. The electrodes are rated for 140-210, so 180 should work.

It just sticks, might pop a couple times. 1/16 rod seems to work OK. Double checked to make sure the leads are clean.

Any ideas? The electrodes are band new in a vac pack.

Thanks,

Nick

Maybe you could try to preheat and see if that would help!

What metal are you trying to weld with the hard face rod?

Is your metal clean where you are trying to weld and where the ground clamp is?

That rod I believe is for DC either polarity (+/-) not AC, have you got a different welder?

Try the Stoody 2110, it will work on carbon or manganese steel, AC or DC. See the link.
