Inside dimensions are going to be 10 x 12x 25". Technically it wont be a full 10x12" its gonna be shaped line the frame of the forge. 2" kawool with 1" of Mizzou. Its all scrap steel I scrounged from po rojects I had left over. Just casted the burner.

That burner looks a little short for a 25 inch long forge. How long is it?

10". It should work. This is about my 10th ribbon burner I have built. Ive got one now 1/3 this size. If I would let the temp go It would probably go to 3000 degrees. A few years ago I got on an extensive and expensive ribbon burner testing phase. Alot of ribbon burner forge building depends on how well your forge is insulation and air pressure.

You just gave me a great idea. Theres really no sense in making it 25 inches long. I might cut it down to 20-21 inches long. That would give more room on my base in the front. Im gonna build a door for the front and back but I havent determined the design. I want it easy to lift with a lever. Any ideas??? Thx for the replies. I just came up with something simple. It should work like a charm.

I am curing out the burner. I leave it in this homemade low temp oven for about 6 hrs. It will reach 200°F. I made years ago for laminating recurve bow limbs. You can regulate the temp with different wattage light bulbs. It will evaporate the water out before going to the next curing phase.

Exciting! I need to build a bigger one as well.

Yours looks great!

Do you have concerns about the screws rusting through the refractory cement or is it just a forge and thats ok?

I would think that it would give it a spot to pop at with the difference in materials at those spots.

Last one, how do you do your ribbon burner and blower? I am still just doing a straight propane burner. So, I know nothing of the forced air burners and methods.

Thx. I dont think the screws will hurt anything. Right now I have 2 other small ribbon burners. The fan is wired up on a switch with a N/C solenoid on the gas line so if I lose power. It will close the gas off to it. But im gonna wire in a pressure switch along with the solenoid. I want to get into doing some axes and damascus. Here is another pic. Im glad I cut it down to 20". Just barely had enough castable to finish.

Getting ready to dry the water out. This could take a couple days.

Im doing some drying cycles. I have to get some more refractory for the doors and a few more parts. I think im gonna cast some more refractory in the floor. Maybe a couple inches. Its pretty tall. I think it would be fine as is. But its pretty tall. What does everyone think?
