How can I figure out how much refractory cement to order based on my piece of casing that I have acquired recently. I can figure the volume inside my casing but how far will a 50lb sack go? It is 14" I'm going to overbuild it for welding.
Jared,
Not sure about all refractories, but a 55lb. bag of Mizzou Plus is 1/2 cubic foot.
Jared,
I used two bags of Mizzou for a 12" diameter by 16" forge.
Good Luck!
Bob
OK Thanks guys for the quick response I thought I might have to order 2 bags. My last order of it didn't go very far.
Where are you buying the cement, and how much does it cost?

I get my refractory supplies from Harbison-Walker. They have distribution centers around the country. If you can drive to a distribution center and pick up your refractories, it's cheaper than having them shipped. Here's a link to their locations. Harbison-Walker
I get mine from the Lynn Whitsett Company located in Memphis, Tn. It was a dollar a pound or $55 for a 55 pound bag of Mizzou 3000. They carry all types of fire bricks also. Lucky for me, I'm only 20 miles from them. They have a website also and were very helpful.
