I have Uncle Al's press. For $3000 delivered (last I checked) it is the least expensive press being made that I could find. Aside from the price, it is a solid well thought out machine that can easily handle any size billet I can fit in my forge.

If you are good with fabrication you should be able to build one for less, or you may find one on the secondary market.

I looked at that one and wondered if it was able to handle making Damascus. I just cant do some of the patterns I want with the hammer

I've used an Uncle Al press for several years with good success. Twenty-five tons is plenty for most applications. (You will need 220v single phase.)

I've also gotten different dies from him to help with different patterns. (He makes numerous specialty dies that will help with different patterns.)

Good luck & happy forging!

I have to give another thumbs up for Al's press. It does not take up much space and can handle pretty near anything you would want it for. Plus Al is a super person to deal with. Al also has numerous dies or you can make your own.

If you've been doing it by hand you're going to love having a press. I'm still amazed at how easily it moves hot steel, it's like it's going through clay.
