I got a Buffalo Forge Co. hand crank forge blower from Ebay. It's in excellent shape and blows air well. My question is on the care of it. I can't seem to find a nipple or any other opening to grease any bearings or oil anything that needs oiling. I'm hoping someone on here owns one or has dealt enough with them to give tell me how to take care of it so it lasts a very long time. Any information on it's care and feeding would be highly appreciated.

Are the gears in an oil reservoir? Does it have a removable top cap on the gear box?

The gear box appears to be riveted shut. Judging from the shape of the gear box, it may have an oil reservoir but I have no access to it. The fan housing is held on with bolts that can be removed.

Cheyenne,

I've had a couple similar to that. As I recall, you loosen the set screw on the crank and slide it off, then take that center screw out of the gear housing and it comes off. Then you grease it or check it from that side. No liquid oil for that one. I believe it would just run out and make a mess. These relatively "cheap" blowers and they usually are either worn out or still in good shape. I have one I believe is identical. It works but probably could use new bushings.

I now have a large 400 blower that is in great shape that will be going in my new shop to fan the coal fire.
