Yes, that's the email to the shop.

Micheal, You measured the dies right. The height is from the bottom of the sow block to the top of the die. You will be alright for awhile at 2 1/2 inches, but I wouldn't push it too much under that.

Well, that makes sense if the cross head is loose. That is why we can see the line between the paint and the raw pitman. I would still clean the paint off of it, that way it would allow you to easily adjust your die gap if your going to be working a lot of different thicknesses of materials.

Whoops sorry about my previous post about your pitman. It should have read, "With the cross head this low it has caused the pitman to break on other hammers in the past."

Thank you guys all very much. Everyone has been super helpful. I spoke with Sid today and he said I have Little Giant Fever.. I think he is right. I really love learning about these machines and find them oddly beautiful... Sid and Keri are the kind of people that made great American companies great. These two are a class act , sharing thier time and information so freely. I was gonna sign up for the class in March but it was already full. Sid also shared with me that there is a retired State Trooper near Nashville that is into LG's also. Which is real cool to me being that Im an active State Trooper.. Now to order the rebuild DVD.

Thank You Guys...

Mike,

You are right it is a fever. I had it going on for almost ten years now and you are right Sid and Keri.

Here is a photo of a mini that I built for Sid. Is that cool or what?

I'm glad we could help out.

Dave thanks again for you comment and help. Im going to try and add a few more close up pics. The transition style hammer had several bolts loosened by the owner. He said he did this to keep it fron having troubles while sitting up. The pitman arm is loose, I dont think any of the parts are broken but I may be mistaken. I hope they are not broken. There is a line of oil there that kinda looks like a crack , not sure if thats what you saw. In the die do I measure the entire block or how much is sticking up? The block measures , from sow block to top of the die 2 and 1/2 inches.. Im a little worried about this. Is it a problem? Mike

Mike,

I tried to return your E-mail re: LG 25# hammer, but have not heard from you by telephone. E-mail me with easy contact data or call me at 317-626-6582. I am in Indiana, just north of Indianapolis in Boone County. Retired R.N., old reserve deputy, current special deputy, aspiring bladesmith. I have been way behind on my correspondence, but how are you turning up so many old power hammers? Golllleeeeeee!
