Brian you can get W1 round stock through fastenal, metal supermarkets, Grainger, etc. Similar to W2 but no vanadium.

Thanks Brion I appreciate it. I'm gonna forge some intergal kitchen knives with hammons. My mom wants a good kitchen knife.

Brion. What size would you use 3/4" or 1". Thanks

I use 13/16" for integrals.

Remember that if you buy W1 you are buying drill bit stock. You can buy any dimension your heart desires - even metric.

Did you check McMaster Carr? I just compared prices on a 7/8 rod and for a 3ft length McMaster was 5 dollars cheaper. McMaster also has some of the best shipping prices and fast delivery times.
