I have been using a similar set for years with practice you can judge to a pretty close deg, I use then to confirm my heat treat. The nice thing with these versus a tester is these will check any angle even a cutting edge can be hardness tested, unlike the test file sets (that work essentially the same way) these can be resharpened. I have been using the same set in my shop for 10+ years and they were from a use tool shop when we got them.
I have 12 sets available right now for $125 shipping included in the ConnUS please email [email protected] if your intrested.

How do you use them. I am not familiar with these testers.
they are use like the test files, you can judge the hardness by trying to cut into the material with the graded chisels, ie 58rc skates but the 60rc bites then the blade is 59rc. you can get surprisingly accurate results with a bit of practice.
For me I just use then to check the relative hardness at different steps to confirm my heat treat did what I wanted it to. In this way I can get repeatable consistent results.
I'll try and get a video of using the chisels this afternoon, several others have also asked how to use them.

Interesting! Let's hope they sell these chisels in Europe. Thanks for sharing

I've checked a couple of blades with mine. It's reassuring to know that all of the aspects of my heat treat check out well. This tool suits my methods perfectly.
I just finished another batch of these. I now offer larger sets that read from 50-64RC for $215 US shipping inc. I can also do up grade sets for those of you that have the orginal sets and wish to expand them.
