I just finished this 10 inch Bowie. as before, I forged out the "tail" and folded it under to rivet it to the little stand off on the bottom of the ricasso.

Lin,

That's amazing work Lin. Do you use a turning fork when forming the handle?

Thanks Bob. No, but I may give that a try. It'll have to be made strong with a sharp corner. The key is to get the distances right and to get it hot before you hit it. When it starts to get out of the orange range, heat it up and make it happen.

Well, I like that a lot Lin. It is very unique and has tremendous appeal potential, or at least I think so.

About the turning fork idea, A while back I made some scrolling jigs so the wife and I could reproduce nearly identical shapes for some projects. The scrolling jig is a pretty common blacksmith's tool. Perhaps you could manufacture something similar from a solid block of steel (I know you have the ability!). If you made a block that would fit inside the handle, and welded it to a plate with a Hardy post, you might be able to slide the ricasso area up against it, clamp the blade down with a pritchel, and form the handle around the block. What do you think?
