Hi, it's been a while since I've posted any of my work here. My latest is a Bowie, water quenched W-2 with mesquite burl handle. Brass and heat blued damascus fittings. The blade is 10.75", 16" overall. Looking back at the last bowie I posted here, it seems blocky to me. This one seems to have more flowing lines. Hopefully I'm improving in my designs, the fit and finish are certainly much better.

Thanks for looking, as usual any feedback is greatly appreciated. -Justin

Very nice, Justin! You are doing quite well with the hamon creation.

Great hamonJustin. The knife looks really good. The flow is much better. It is good that you can recognize the differences. Being your own harshest critic is a good thing. Again good work.

Thanks for your feedback. It took a couple of tries to get the hamon, but I'm certainly happy with it.

It's funny how sometimes anothers opinion, or even looking at a photo of your work can really open your eyes. My third or so knife was a large Bowie-ish knife, and I was very exited about it, Having just made it I thought it looked awsome. Till some one had the honesty to tell me what they really thought. Immediately I saw that the handle didn't line up right, the ricasso was much to narrow and the blade shape left something to be desired. Since then I have strived to be honest with myself, about how a knife looks. No one is going to be able to push you but yourself. Even so It is very helpful to have a second set of eyes looking (two sets of master smith eyes are even better). I am thankful to have this forum available.

Thank you Steve and Brion for your comments, Justin

You are welcome Justin. You definitely have to train your eyes on how to look at your knives. It just takes time and honest critiques. You are doing good.
