Good looking knife Scott. I really like the hamon. What was your method if you don't mind me asking? I just ordered some 1075 mainly to forge a kitchen knife for my wife and think a nice hamon would add an elegant touch. I have some Rutlands refractory cement that I just lined my forge with and figured on just using that. Thanks for sharing your work, it's appreciated.

Hello Mr Cranker! Thanks for the kind words. There is a thread in topic of the month on this fourm from November of 2011 which is loaded with information.

I use njsteelbaron 1075, forge to shape, thermocycle three times with reducing heats starting at critical, then 1350 last 1300. The blade then goes into vermiculite to cool.

Rough grind, to edge thickness or about a dime or 0.0050. Next I use satinite mixed with water and place it on the blade thin. Quench in parks #50 at 1485, cool and grind off the scale

Then temper twice at 425. And that's it.maxim petrochemical has parks #50. If you have the black Rutland it will work fine.hope this helps

Thank you Mr. Gallagher, I really appreciate the info and I will definitely look into the other thread. I should get my steel in the next few days (jantz knife suppy). Do the different places have better steel than others? I'm super excited to give it a try. I will post some pics, tho I still have not figured it out yet I will try harder. Thank you for sharing Mr. Gallagher have a great night. Ron
