hello guys, been just quietly looking around the forum, so it's been a while since i posted any of my works

lately I've been trying to do always something new that would push my abilities and make me learn new things.

Thats why i chose to make few traditional folding blades, and amongst them a folding billhook with ratchets,

this type of blade can be found all over the world, on the Mediterranean area we have the folding variants,

from simple friction to a more complex back spring locking method

in this case i came up with the shapes using as reference an old one i have in my possession.

the blade/hook is forged to shape out of 1085 and the spring is 15n20

handle made out of stabilized curly maple

all with a rustic/antique finish

Another project i enjoyed was this bowie, made mostly out of reclaimed material.

Blade is forged out of a horse carriage leaf spring.

The guard is made out of wrought iron, this time i decided to forge the guard slot using as reference few pictures shared by Nick Rossi

on punching the guard material and then forging it on the blade tang to create a tight fit.

some copper and nickel spacers

handle made out of walnut, an off-cut of a gunstock

everything was assembled after finishing and i also doomed the pin that goes thru the tang.

the blade is acid etched and then buffed to gave a nice opaque finish.

sheath made out of bull leather, hand sewn and dyed. kinda copied Bill Bagwell style and of some others

i hope it's of your liking and if you have any opinion on my work please share it with me <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

till then have a nice day <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Nice work! I like em both. We were just today discussing "crooked knives". I think your bill hook would be a variation but in a folder. Great. I really enjoyed seeing them.

thx <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

as far as i know the folding version was mostly used as a everyday blade in the old times, from what i was told and heard it saw a large use in the fields, orchards and vineyards

to harvest and clean up the plants from smaller branches, perform grafting and similar tasks.

seen it in use also by basket makers, the hook is nice as you can pull towards yourself with a safer movement and you can apply more force than with a straight blade.
