Hey all, I just joined ABS and am very excited to learn more about knife making. Here’s the knife I just finished making. This is my fifth knife I’ve made (three forged and two material removal). I’m happy with how it turned out but would welcome any feedback!

Forged from 1084 steel. Tested the edge by batoning it through a copper pipe with no damage.

Sorry for the large image, I couldn’t figure out how to resize on the phone.

*edit* resized photo thanks for the tips!

Scott, I like the profile of that knife. That's pretty good for a 5th knife.

You must have used a ball peen to texture the blade. As you get more forging practice you will be able to planish at a low red heat with your forging hammer to a pleasing texture. Nice work.

Thanks! I’m really happy with it. Ive done a variety of mechanical stuff before starting to blacksmith which I thinks given me a bit of a good start to it. I did indeed use a ball peen for texture. I started off with some really basic hammers, hopefully soon I’ll upgrade to a nicer hammer and feel more comfortable texturing with it. It’s funny, the other knives I’ve forged I tried to keep as smooth as possible so I had less grinding to do, it was odd to me to add texture to it after forging the distal taper into it. Felt kind of fake to do...
