A couple of years ago, I purchased a poured ingot of W2 from MS Ray Rybar. Ray has had W2 and 1095 made at a foundry and sells the ingots. The W2 worked great and another smith who had used some of Ray's 1095 told me how wonderful it was to work with. So, I called Ray and asked if he had any more.

I now own a 22.8 pound ingot of 1095

Tested analysis: C: 1.11, MN: 0.30, Si: 0.26, P: 0.011, S: 0.006, Cr: 0.05, O: 0.014, N: 0.007, Fe: Remainder

I will probably get around to forging a chunk of this after Thanksgiving.

That's a lot of knives. Have fun cutting it up.

This will likely be cut into quarters and forged separately. The first ingot, of W2, weighed 20.2 pounds. I cut it into thirds and that was a little too much to deal with at one time.

Here is the original W2 ingot from 2016.

After considerable forging at welding temps and cleaning the popcorn off the edge, I made a portion of that third into a 30 inch long bar.

Here is a cut through the section of that bar.

This was made into a variety of blades. Most of them kitchen knives, although there was a Nordic style Seax and a Bowie as well.
