I just finished this hunter and I really like how it turned out. The blade is forged 1084 and 3-3/4 inch long with an OAL of 8-1/2. Light as a feather.

Looks like natural/brown canvas micarta. Loveless used micarta quite a bit. I think it makes a very attractive, affordable and practical handle material; it won't move, swell, or react in any way to water. You can polish it to a gorgeous luster, sand it to about 110 and wash with WD-40 or bead blast it (I'm sure there are other methods that I'm not familiar with). It's made by layering a medium (canvas, linen, paper, etc.) with phenolic resin and pressing until cured. It's not hard to make, and using your imagination will result in some interesting effects (like layering different colors and twisting).

That's a beautiful piece, M.S. Rhea. Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you.

Dan, it is indeed brown Micarta.

It's rather plain but I thought the knife called for it. Can't hide problems on such a simple design.

Yes Chris. It should be on my table in KC.

That's an idea I've been kicking around for awhile now. I actually started the project twice, both times ending with a cracked blade so I put it on the back burner for awhile. Now looking at your superb example I may have to give it another go.
