hello guys!

made this small thing to just try out this type of handle style, after i saw some works of Rick Marchand and others.

looked interesting and here is one i made. took me some time to figure out how to wrap and secure the ends of the hemp string,

in the end i found on the internet a fairly easy way to do it. and here it is. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

5160 acid etched

total length: 9"

blade length: 4" 1/2"

i also used some leather spacers under the wrapping

all "soaked" in epoxy (used on sea boats and i also squeezed it to remove excess) quite a nice feel, fairly good grip.

i kinda like this thing, will try to make a few more to understand better how to cover all the parts better.

as usual if you have any thoughts on my work, i kindly ask you to share them with me <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

till then have a nice day <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Elvis,

I like the look. I don't know if this will help, but this is how I might approach wrapping one. I would have a smaller round hole in the end of the tang (think thong hole - maybe a 5/16" hole). Next, I would glue the leather to the handle and chamfer the edges of the leather. You could bring the leather all the way up the back of the handle and have holes in both sides to match up with the tang/thong hole. By having full leather "fillers" the entire length of the knife, you don't have to worry about hiding the leather. Then you can lace as normal, have a smaller hole to lace at the butt end of the knife and be able to hide how you secure it. A few drops of "super glue" on the lacing at the very end will help secure it until you soak/paint it in epoxy. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thank you,

Mark Roe

thank you Mark <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

yeah was thinking of trying to use a "normal" hole but i fear it would make it difficult to pass the cord thru once i get to a certain point....

need too do few mock handles on some wood or scrap steel just to figure out the best way, will also try other types of cordage

this one have lots of inconsistency in thickness, tried to spin it on itself to reduce the difference but just isn't enough.

for the leather spacer, it could be worth a try <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> will also give a shot to one without lather spacers and just do a double wrap.

thanks for sharing your thoughts with me <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> i really appreciate it
