I finally got around to putting a handle on this Chef's knife. It is 9-3/4" from point to bolster and 1-7/8" wide at the choil area. The W-2 has an interesting history. I purchased an ingot from MS Ray Rybar last year at the ABANA conference. Ray had this steel made to his exact specifications. Here is a photo of the ingot. It measured approximately 2" x 2" x 14" and weighed 20.2 pounds.

Here is the knife today. It still needs some final finishing and glue-up, but I figured I put it out there anyway. Who knows when I'll have time to do the final fiddly-bits. Stabilized Buckeye, red vulcanized paper, and black micarta.

For those of you curious enough, the ingot was cut into thirds and forged down using a press and power hammer. Here is photo of the three pieces in various stages. Raw ingot, partially forged, and the third piece is the bar I made this knife from. It was 1-1/4" x 3/8" x about 30" long.

Thanks Karl. It was an interesting forging adventure. Good practice for the day when I have to forge bloom steel. Forging the first third taught me a thing or two. The next third will be forged into wider plates, stacked and rewelded. This bar had some issues with voids and pockets not getting closed all the way. The restacking should eliminate that.

BTW-The blade has a really nice Hamon. I don't have the right lighting to capture it in a photo, but you can see the tail end of it right where the handle meets the blade in the first pic.
