This knife was fun to make, but aren't they all! Calling this one the Brute de forge "Straight Back Skinner". Coal forged 5160 steel, 9.5" OAL, 5" blade, copper bolsters and liners with domed rivets. Finally got an etcher so I can mark my work. This was my first experience working with stag, and as you might guess, while setting the last rivet head near the butt "crack"! Learning experience for sure <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//blink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> !
Thanks for looking and leaving any suggestions!
Bob
Bob,
That looks great, is that a flat grind or a hollow grind? My only suggestion other than stopping one blow sooner when setting rivets is to bring the grind back closer to the finger guard, just my personnel preference, not required.
Steve
Thanks Steve! Flat grind, I saw the same thing once I started finishing the bolsters. Didn't look so long when I drew it out in the design stage and forged it. The pic of the end of the handle doesn't show it, but probably should have tapered the tang just a little more.
Bob
Looking good Bob. I like it. Yes those pins close to the butt can be problems, just have to go easy on them. My suggestion would be the same as Steve's. Just bring the grind back a little bit more, closer to the guard part. You are doing good.

Hello Bob
Do you have a copy of Forging and Finishing the Brut D-Forge Knife; by Joe Keeslar? Great book! It has all the how to make a Brut De-Forge knife.
I highly recommend it!
Good looking knife!
Russell
Hey Russell,
Funny that you mentioned the book, I saw an ad for the book in the ABS Journal tonight. I'm going to order it tomorrow.
Thanks!
Bob
