Hi! Usually I make simple and monosteel hunting and survival knives. Not a big fan of forgewelding and bowie style knives, so I thought it would be a terrible idea to make a forgewelded bowie style hunter knife. My latest piece - a san mai hunter/bowie. The blade is made of St3, nickel and HVG (O1) in the middle. ~180mm long, ~40mm wide and ~5mm thick. The guard is 99,99% pure copper and the handle is Arizona desert ironwood.
This is the progress so far - blade grinded, finished and test etched, guard and handle fitted. Now will have to make the butt cap, epoxy it all together and start making the sheath.

It certainly catches my attention. I think it doesn't matter what you call it. Sometimes I call knives in that size and shape a "field knife" or a "hiking knife". More of a general purpose knife that someone would take on a camping/hunting/hiking trip.
“So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. I've been there before.”
It took some time to finish the knife, because I had other things to do.
But finally it is done - fitted and glued together. When testing the fit, I decided to add a small piece of stainless steel between the guard and the handle to match the nickel line on the blade. It looks like nothing, but it took another hour just to cut, drill and fit the little .......(bad words here).
The whole thing is held together by a small 4mm nut and the epoxy. The copper piece on the butt is also threaded and adds some more strength to the bond.
Here are the pieces right before glueing.

And the finished knife. Now comes the hard part - the sheath.

Sheath finished and finally done! All criticism welcome!

On the plate is written "Smart(ass) Peter". Peter is a hero from the bulgarial folklore. The knife is ordered for the owner of a vacantion complex with the same name.
