Here are the latest knives out of my shop. Both are mono-steel and I tried not to go crazy with embellishments.

An O-1 hunter with 416 SS fittings and an ironwood handle.

And a Bowie in 1095 with Brass and nickel-silver fittings. I do not generally use brass fittings, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I still think the guard is too fat. The handle slabs are stabilized box elder

I also couldn't stop myself from pimping it up a little. This is my standard for this particular handle style.

I happen to like plain straight forward knives. The type that you are not afraid to pickup, hold in your hand and use.

I also like good file work.

Very nice on all accounts.

Good work Joshua! Sometimes I like to think of the Japanese saying, "simple is elegant". Paraphrasing there, but you get my meaning. I do agree with you on the guard for the bowie. Keep up the good work.

To break it on down to my level, "a knife has to look good naked". I like embellishments almost as much as anyone but I don't want to rely on that to "wow" someone. Basic line and flow is absolutely necessary to catch my eye.

Good post and good work Joshua.

Thanks guys. I really liked that little hunter and I wasn't surprised that it sold right away. I finally bought some good rasps and went for the curvy shape (thanks Karl). I don't make a lot of stub tangs in solid one-piece handles. The truth is, I was never that good at them. Then I saw some handle broaches that JJ Simon and another maker, Wes Detrick, made. They looked like they might help me get the system down. So I made one.

It didn't really help, but I had fun making it and trying to use it. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//blink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I debated and fussed about that Bowie guard for a while, finally deciding to stop second guessing myself. I wanted to put a heavy wedge between the blade and handle. With the back curve of the handle and the reverse taper on the blade spine, I was trying to make it look like the guard had been forced down between them, and a thinner guard wouldn't have given that effect. I don't know if anyone else sees that in the knife, but I do.

I also made a slightly better (ie bigger) picture of that knife.
