Hi Guys

This Brut De Forge Bowie is forged from 5160, it has an 8" blade, is 1 3/4" wide, just under 1/4" thick at the spine and is 12 5/8" long. The gun blued bolsters are dove tailed to match the curly maple scales which are held to the tapered tang with six gun blued pins and one hand made mosaic pin. The scales and the bolsters are lined with black fibre liners.

The sheath is leather lined and covered in rawhide. The customer wanted a plain sheath so I've only placed five brass dots on the throat flap. The rawhide is dyed and roughed up to give it a worn look.

Thank you for taking the time to look, all comments and questions very welcome.

Alll the best

Steve

Well made in construction as well as the appearance. The sheath is very attractive too.

Really cool looking knife. Can I ask your construction method to get those blued pins on the handle scales?

Hi Jeremy

The handle was put together in the usual way, the angles ground on the scales to match those of the bolsters, all the holes for the pins drilled etc and then everything glued in place. The handle was then sanded and shaped. The handle pins were made from 1.6mm carbon steel Tig wire, when the handle shaping was compltete I applied a little G96 gun blue creme to the head of each pin with a small artists brush. Because this is a creme it stays where you put it, I leave it for 5-10mins then wipe off. I hope this answers your question.

Thank you for taking the time to look and your comments gents.

All the best

Ahhhhh, that makes sense. I was wondering how you managed to have the line just the right length and not get the bluing solution all over the handle scales. Thanks for the information.
