Just finished this one up. Forged from 1084. The second Bowie to come off of the new Big Blu 65 power hammer. The cutting edge is 10 inches. The overall length is 16 1/2 inches. The finish on the blade, guard, and spacer is Birchwood Casey Super Blue. The spacer has copper liners. The handle is Desert Ironwood shaped into a coffin-style handle. It has 5 copper pins and one mild steel pin that has also been cold blued.
Desert Ironwood can be such a classy handle, it is often my reply to the old saying "wood is no good" in choosing handle materials. Stable, durable and beautiful... the only downside is that it may just be the stinkiest of handle materials. I can't wait to get in the shower after working it.
Haha! Yeah, definitely not one of the better smelling woods out there. Comparable to working deer antler. I much prefer the smell of Thuya!
