The book "Heat Treater's Guide: Practices and Procedures for Irons and Steels" by editor Harry Chandler comes highly recommended by one of our ABS heat treating experts Master Smith Kevin Cashen. Anyone who has attended an ABS class or demonstration on heat treating conducted by Master Smith Kevin Cashen has heard him speak about this book. I was in contact with Kevin yesterday about the book and he said that: " It is expensive but if there is one book for a bladesmith to have to nail the metallurgy and heat treating this one is it."
