Tim and I spent the day finishing up filming a complete tutorial on how to build a "Can" Welded Damascus billet. Tim has a lot of editing to do, simply because this is the longest, most in depth video we've done to date. As soon as Tim has it completed and posted, I'll be sure to let everyone know.
Here's short clip of a "slice" off the billet that I took down to 1200 grit and etched. In the clip, the high carbon/alloy steels have a "frosty" appearance, but that's because everything is in it's annealed state. Once heat treated, those areas will appear very dark/black. I'll have some piece at this year's Blade Show made from this materials, and because it was such a huge billet, will likely have some for sale on my site.

I enjoy your videos Ed. Great work. You're a good educator, which is what the ABS is all about.
Thanks Lin! I'd have to say that as time has gone by, I've find teaching this craft more and more my favorite part of Bladesmithing. It just thrills me when I see "the light come one" when teaching. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
