This is my first damascus billet. I got my frankenpress all welded up and dies made and this was one of the first things I've tried. I've forge welded cables and san mai and stuff like that, but nothing I've had to cut/stack/twist/draw/etc..
It's two 40 layer twists into a (sort of) feather pattern.
It's got a few bad spots that I gotta cut out. I got too aggressive with the last draw trying to get it down to 3/8 and it split a couple spots. I hope there's just enough good steel in there to get one 4.5 inch blade or so.
Thanks,
Nick
Nice looking piece of steel Nick.
I say take those splits in the end and forge them into the tang. You have plenty of steel for a good sized blade.

Good work. It is very satisfying to see the end result of hard work. Congratulations.
