Steve Kelly is having a gathering at his shop next month (The Montana Mtn. Summit). Since he doesn't charge admission, those of use who attend try to take something to raffle off, to help Steve pay for the event. Last event, I made a set of hammers, and this time I produced a set of DAMASCUS hammers. Everybody asks me "Can you use them?" Of course! I've been using Damascus hammers in my shop for several years now.
While I was at it, I had to make a "special" one.......complete with a split maple handle......

Sweet! So how do I buy a ticket? <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
Ed, those are outstanding. Truly.
We often hear how some of our knives are too pretty to use, and I can imagine a new owner of one of those hammers sitting it in the living room on display and never getting near an anvil with it.
Extraordinary.

Ed, OUTSTANDING! I have never seen a damascus hammer before let alone one so beautiful. All I can say is "WOW"! Are tickets available to all of us ABS folks?

I talked with Steve and he's planning on offering tickets online starting sometime in April. I'll have to get all the specifics from him, and once I do, I'll post it on this thread.

I agree with Karl. The winner may never let it get close to the anvil. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

thanks

I can't take credit for coming up with the split handles.....many years ago I was in Wayne Goddard's shop, and noticed that his hammers had the split handles.....he told me that the split handles were great at absorbing shock that would otherwise travel up his arm and cause "tennis elbow". He recommended that I git it a try, and after the first day of using a split handle, ALL my hammers got them installed. Over the years another advantage I've noticed is that the split handle gives the hammer some "snap" right at the end of a hard blow.....which essentially makes a lighter hammer do the work of a heavier one.

Beautiful work Ed! Any chance we might see a thread on making the split handles, and best damascus for the heads, and of course, when to buy raffle tickets!
Thanks,
Bob
