Howdy,
My name is Jon, I have been Blacksmithing off and on for about two years and just made the leap into Bladesmithing about 4 months ago.
Only having assembled one knife previously, that I won at a Flint River knife Club meetup, I decided it was time to make my own.
With some rough 1084, homemade forge, track anvil, and HF 1x30 grinder I set to work. Attached is the Drop Point Hunter I came up with. (Please excuse the sheath, I hadn't ever made a sheath before either)
I have learned much and have so much yet to learn, but I have enjoyed and am enjoying every minute I get to spend "working" on knives.
I have already met many great folks and look forward to getting to know even more.
My plan this year is to design and make a cleaver, a chefs Knife and a straight razor while advancing my skills to include SS bolsters, true flat grind, and hollow grind (both full and small).
Jon
Welcome to the ABS and Forum. I thank you will meet even more incredible and talented people here. If you get the chance go to a ABS Hammer-in.
You can and will learn so much. Nice job on your knife and sheath.
Anthony
Welcome Jon. Looks like you're off to a good start. How dose the knife perform? I love testing what I make.
I get so much satisfaction when one performs great.

Thank you Chris,
Beyond cutting cleanly through some thin paper and chopping on a spare 2x4 I haven't tested much. This is just one of the many areas I need to research and add to my process so I am able to accurately measure my progress, other than esthetics.

Thank you Anthony, for the compliment. I have the NC hammer-in on my calendar, but am not sure yet if I'll be able to attend.
Welcome aboard sir! Great place to learn
Jon, that's a good place to start. Testing helps me try to make each knife better than the last. Finding the point of failure is sometimes more informative than one might expect. Thanks for answering my questions and please continue to share.
