Hello everyone,

My name is Chris, from the Flemisch part of Belgium, and I just finished the 2 weeks bladesmithing initiation organised by the ABS in Ostiches (French part of Belgium) with Master Smith Jean-Paul Thévenot from France. He was assisted with 2 Belgian smiths, also ABS members and instructors. Those 2 weeks where amazing: I started without almost any knowledge of forging and came out with a quality blade and the know-how! Thanks again to the ABS and the instructors!!

Greetings,

Chris

Welcome to the American Bladesmith Society and the ABS Forum. Please ask any questions that you have about bladesmithing techniques and I know that our members will answer with sound advice that will help all of us to learn more about the craft.

I am glad that you learned a great deal at the Introduction to Bladesmithing Class at the ABS school in Ostiches, Belgium. You were a member of the first class at our newest ABS school. Thank you for your comments.

Sally updated your ABS membership records this morning with your class attendance information. Completion of the Introduction to Bladesmithing class at one of our ABS schools reduces the wait time by one year for eligibility to test for the Journeyman Smith rating.

Christophe,

Welcome to the ABS and the Forum!!

I'm happy to hear that the ABS classes in Belgium are going well! Jean-Paul and I earned our Master Smith stamps in 2007. We then made a collaboration knife together and donated it for the ABS auction. Jean-Paul is a very nice gentleman and a fine knifemaker.

Welcome Chris, sounds Great!

I recently corresponded with Dirk from The Forge in Ostiches. My family may be in Europe this summer after our daughter is through with her college exchange in Madrid. If I get up that way maybe we could meet. It is unlikely we will go that far North, but maybe though (my wife wants to go to Paris.) Heck I don't speak a word of Spanish, French, or anything else for that matter....but I can swing a hammer.

Wishing you joy on your bladesmithing journey!

Aloha, Phil

Steve,

The ABS classes were fantastic! Jean-Paul was like a father to us, a very nice man indeed and a good instructor. Do you have photos from the collaboration knife? I'm curious about that. I saw some of of your knives in the ABS magazine in Ostiches and also checked your website. Hope to reach that level once...

Thanks for the welcome.

Dag Phil,

Dirk still remembered you. Always welcome if you can make it to the North, just be prepared for the weather uphere, even during the summer. This isn't Hawaii <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//wink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> And don't mind about the language, hammer blows are like music!

Thank you for the wishes and welcome.
