New member here...I reside in Santa Rosa, California, about 70 miles north of San Francisco. I have just a small amount of bladesmithing experience, and none within the last 3 years or so. I had a simple charcoal fired forge and post anvil, and made several decently functional knives, but the forge was not well suited to my shop environment and I dismantled it, and gave my anvil to another prospective bladesmith. In the next couple of months I hope to be set up again with another anvil and a decent gas forge, I have a good basic selection of hammers and tongs and other assorted tools, and I want to apply myself and really develop the ability to make a great blade. I'm looking forward to reading and asking questions and learning from all of you here.

It is great to have you on board the ABS Forum. I saw your new ABS membership and ABS Forum registration come through this afternoon and approved you while watching the Denver Bronco football game.

Please ask any questions that you have and you will find our knowledgeable members ready to help.

WELCOME Rick!

Sounds like you have a plan.

What kind of knives do you like?

Aloha, Phil

Phil, for EDC I like a smallish hunter or skinner type, but aesthetically I like large blades too...bowies, seaxes, kukri etc etc. I also have a strong liking for Japanese and Japanese influenced blades. Hard not to just love a well crafted tanto to my way of thinking. I do lean towards the practical less flashy rather than eye candy knives, tho' I surely do appreciate them. I've carried a knife of one sort or another virtually every day of my life since I was 8 or 9 years old, and I expect it to be a useful, durable tool.
