Hey all. Intended to register for the forums a while back but just got around to it.

Bill Wiggins, Jim Rodebaugh, and Doc Batson talked me into joining back in June, when I attended the Handles & Guards class at Haywood, which was beyond exceptional, and which I would take again tomorrow if I could.

I've been forging for a couple of years now and making damascus with Zoe Crist, who's been my good friend and mentor.

I live down in the Asheville NC area, and I've got a pretty much fully equipped shop at my house (air hammer, large knee mill, surface grinder, bandsaws, 2x72s, etc, and just scored a rolling mill), and I enjoy making tools and restoring old machines as best I can.

Anyway, I've met some of you, looking forward to meeting more. Just wanted to say hi before I start hounding everyone for info, and if anybody wants to hang out or make stuff, I work for myself and available most of the time. Feel free to email me for my phone number, etc. See you at the hammer in @ haywood in a few weeks.

Welcome Javan. Good to have you here. As Dan said, if you have any questions just ask away and someone will answer them. Sounds like you have a nicely equipped shop. I look forward to seeing some of your work.

Welcome again.

Thanks Brion.

I actually got started thinking I was going to be a "zero power tools" primitive forger type. I met Zoe and he ruined that. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//wink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> Instant transmission of the "big machine acquisition disease".

I still love doing things the hard way, but I love the big toys also. I've pretty much spent every penny I've made over the last couple of years and cannibalized my other business in persuit of knife and steel making. I decided earlier in the year that it was time to get a lot more serious though, which is what led me to the Handles & Guards class, which I consider one of the best investments I've ever made.
