My name is Barry Jacoby and live in Sierra Vista, AZ. (just a stones throw from Tombstone). I have been making knives off and on for over 45 years. My dad use to bring me home remnants of mechanical hacksaw blades for me to turn into knives. I would spend hours burning up grinding wheels and drill bits fashioning knives from this work hardened steel. Neither one of us knew anything about annealing. Fast forward to a 6 year stint in Phoenix where I had the pleasure of meeting D'Alton Holder at a local knife show. He invited me to his shop and I learned more in a couple of visits than I could imagine. I was inspired and started planning the build of my homemade 2-1/2" x 48" grinder. Made a lot of knives with that grinder and still have it and use it. My shop has grown since those days and just recently delved into forging. I'm excited to be a member of this great organization. I look forward to learning more about this craft from all of the talented smiths here. I hope one day to be able to put the MS mark on my knives.

Welcome Barry

If you can go to a ABS school. I just returned from the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing and it was great.

Welcome Barry. Hopefully you can come to one of our AABA meets. (Arizona Artist Blacksmith Assoc.)

It would be great to meet you F2F and introduce you to some of the other bladesmiths in the group. You just missed two open forges, (one was in Tucson) but there are some great looking events coming up soon in Phoenix. Here is the website:

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I already realize that this is an organization that truly cares about the personal and professional development of its members. I hope soon to be able to share my successes (and failures).
