Hello everyone. My name is Robert Williams (hence the user name), and I am just starting in my knife making journey. I have been considering making knives for a while now, but have not gotten started. As soon as the Texarkana school posts the 2016 schedule I will be signing up for the first class. I am looking forward to being an active member in the ABS and greater knife making community.

Welcome to the American Bladesmith Society and the ABS Forum. I am sure that the 2016 class schedule for Texarkana College will be posted soon.

Welcome Robert. Good to have you here on the forum and in the ABS. I know there will probably be an intro course in March. Look forward to meeting you in the future.

Hello Robert;

The 2016 schedule will be up next week. We are trying to condense and streamline the class offering somewhat but I will have it up first of next week.

There will probably be an intro class the middle of March; not in stone but probably.

Hello Mr. R. Williams, welcome to the ABS and forum. Like you I am very new to bladesmithing. Maybe we could help eachother along the way. Have you started forging yet? I'm on just my second knife now. I'm getting it ready for heat treatment.

Hi Everyone, thanks for the welcome.

Ronald, I haven't started yet. I wanted to wait until I attend the class. Once I get started I would be happy to compare notes/projects to see if we can shorten the learning curve.

Ok that sounds great, I look forward to it. Taking the class is a great idea. I'm going to try to get into one at Haywood Next year. Have you decide on a coal or gas forge yet? I have a small single burner devils forge that seems to be working well for me and my skill level at the moment.

Welcome Robert. It looks like you have already have several who are willing to help and I certainly look forward to seeing the work you will produce in the intro class.

I took my intro class in October of 2002. Seems like yesterday.

I will go with a gas forge. I have this forge on the short list for now. They seem to have good reviews on the forums, and are made about 30 minutes from my house.

Welcome Robert. I will be taking the Intro to blade smithing November 2-13th. I bought a gas forge when I started so I could use it for heat treating and forging blades. My neighborhood might freak out if I was using coal. LOL!
