I’m new to the ABS this week and looking forward to getting to know ya’ll. The generous amount of informatin being shared here by so many talented bladesmiths is both amazing and a little intimidating.

I’ve always loved knives and have been a curious hobbyist for quite awhile. I’ve been attempting to learn how to flat grind using 1084. Innocently, I also wanted to heat treat some of the blades I’d been messing with using a propane forge. This was when a casual interest quickly turned into something that has taken over my mind for the past year.

I’ll continue messing around in the garage for now, but I plan to get signed up for a bladesmithing class sometime this summer.

Yes that is how it starts Matt. Oh I will just try some grinding, maybe some heat treating, and you are sucked in. Great to have you in the ABS and on the forum. Post your questions and we will try our best to answer them.

Welcome Matt. You wont find a bunch of nicer guys than here. I would suggest buying Tim Hancocks dvd on grinding. I'm watching it an it is phenomenal in helping us learn grinding!

Matt, welcome to the ABS and the ABS forums.

Your introduction and how you got started sounds so familiar. Except the way I remember it was more like "Lay back, relax and tell me where this all started" <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Welcome to the addiction.
