Hello All,

I come from the hot, humid climate of Florida, Miami. If it is not hot, then it is raining. I've joined ABS recently as I would like to advance my skill in forging blades and look forward to start taking some of the classes next year. I have had the honor and privilege to learn under the teachings of George Brackett, who I consider the greatest mentor anyone could have. I have been making knives for over a year now using the stock removal method and recently finished my first forged knife. I've made knives out of 1084 and 1095 and just attempted my first bolster made out of wood on my forged knife. I still need a lot more practice.

A little background info about myself, I graduated from Florida International University 2 years ago where I studied Accounting, Computer Science, and IT. I've been working in the programming industry for 3 years now, where I currently work at Ultimate Software as a Database Administrator. I also currently train in Taekwondo as a black belt with focus on Bahng Mahng ee (escrima stick) and Oh Sung Do (Korean Broad Sword) weapons. Other than that I try to live a simple life and enjoy knife making. I really look forward to taking the ABS classes and meeting some of you all in person next year.

Thank you,

-David Swait

Welcome to the American Bladesmith Society and the ABS Forum! Please ask any questions that you have about bladesmithing and our knowledgeable ABS members will answer. It is also a good opportunity to get to know our members.

I know about the humidity in Floida because I worked in Miami for five years. Just remember how pleasant it is in the Winter.

Welcome David. In your spare time, go back and read some of the old post. There is already a world of information on this forum. You just have to hunt for it.

Is Swait past tense for sweat? It would be if I was in Miami. Welcome to the ABS and the forum David. We're glad to have you with us.
