Greetings,

My name is Jarret and I started bladesmithing 4 months ago. I've always had an interest in smithing but my only real exposure was seeing it done in video games . I had believed for the longest time everything was simply a machine and that a hand forge blade master could only be found in some clandestine Japanese mountain village.I remember finding an old 4 prong fishing fork head and smashing it into a pipe and flailing around my new weapon like a maniac my dad ended up killing a snake with it and it couldn't have made 14 year old me any happier. My ignorance was broken when I had expressed interest and my grandfather had told me how they forged them on the ships During his service. unfortunately, I had been stationed outside the U.S. at the time and couldn't do anything to start learning. Immediately after getting stationed here in Maryland I took up an amazing opportunity about an hour away from the base called the foundery(spelled that way on purpose). I been studying bladesmithing and blacksmithing techniques under Sam Salvati and aspire great things in learning the trade.I look forward to being part of the community and hope to do my part in showing skilled American craftsmanship.

Welcome to the ABS and Forum. Maybe you can go to a ABS bladesmithing school sometime. If not a school maybe a Hammer-in, you will love the whole experience!!
