Hello, my name is David Loukides. I've been visiting this site but have never said "hello". I received my JS last year at Atlanta Blade Show and will be at Table 23Q with my wife Wendy.

Here's a picture of my latest bowie.

The finish on the blade is 2000 grit and 3 rub downs with flitz. The 3rd pic shows a pretty nice mirror finish for 5160. Wendy pointed out a "small" hesitation in a finish stroke. I put a lot of time in the finish so I will put a couple more strokes to make it right.

Wendy is my best critic and encourager.

Comments Welcomed.

David

Welcome to the ABS Forum and thank you for posting the photos of your latest work.

The knife and handle have a nice shape and balance. Your file work looks very well done and has a good fit and finish at the ferrule.

My wife Sally is always the final inspector of my work as well.

David, the knife looks great. I have looked and looked for the "small hesitation" but cannot find it. I have lots of learning to go. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Thank you Dan.

Hi Cheyenne Walker, The Small hesitation is only picked up in a bright or hard light.

It was caused by not having oil on the blade on my final strokes.

No oil can cause your stroke to hesitate or stop and start and leave a inconsistent finish.

This is not the first time that Wendy's eye's catch something that I was over looking.

It is a Good thing to have another person with a objective point of view.

Dave

Nice bowie David, good work and great stag. ALso welcome to the forum, good to have you here.

I know what you mean about wives and their eyes. Who do you think is my quality inspector. Don't you love hearing the question (What is this?). I know it is time to go back to the shop after that.

Keep up the good work.
