It's official. The International Custom Cutlery Exposition will take place on September 18-20, 2015. The show will be held at the downtown Marriott in Kansas City, Mo. The show will have 75 tables for ABS makers and 75 tables for KMG makers. Also included will be tables for suppliers. This will be a historic event, featuring top makers from both groups.

The ABS will be doing educational seminars including knife care and sharpening as well as other seminars on knifemaking. We are still in the early stages of planning, so we don't have all the seminars nailed down at this point. Also, we will be judging for MS and JS. This will offer applicants a option, in addition to Atlanta.

Thanks Bill. I guess the next question is how do we get tables? And how much are the tables? Thank you for the information.

Tables fees are 300. If you didn't have in San Antonio, contact Harvey Dean.

I would like to add to Bill's post. The arrangements are in the early stages. We still have a lot of work to do. Look for a write-up about it in Blade Magazine. The issue should be to subscribers in late October.

Bladesmiths actually have a tie to Kansas City. Bill Moran was president of the Knifemakers Guild in 1972. He reintroduced damascus to the American knife world in Kansas City at the 1973 Guild show.

At the Exposition we plan to have an award for the bladesmiths, possibly called the Bill Moran Memorial Damascus Award. Be thinking about a cool pattern to bring to Kansas City for the first ICCE (International Custom Cutlery Exposition).

As Bill said the table fees are $300. At the Downtown Kansas City Marriott king size rooms are $134. Information about how to make hotel reservations and pay tables fees will be released soon. If you would like to have a table at this historic event contact Cindy Sheely at the ABS office. She will be adding your name on the list. We will get registration information out soon.

I am really looking forward to being in Kansas City. I have heard from a lot of collectors that are really excited about this.

I really think this is a chance for the knife making and collecting world to come together and join efforts as a new united force to promote custom knives. My intention is to be there and to bring something pretty special, for me at least. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

From my perspective this is a monumental event in the history of handmade knives, a combined show put on by both of the leading knifemaking organizations for the furthering of their goals and the benefit of their members. It's a great opportunity for the ABS to carry its educational mission to the public as well as other knifemakers, and will serve as a gauge for where the knifemaking community is and where it's going. I think everyone should want to be a part of this.

I might exhibit a slight bias in stating that the first (and best <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//wink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />) article about the show will appear in the next issue of KNIFE WORLD, mailed October 10th.

This sounds very cool! I hope to be there. I was just talking with my local ABANA chapter about doing a handle making demo, either in July or September. I hope they have the slot in July so I can do this show.

The ABS Board of Directors voted several months ago on a motion to have JS and MS judging in Kansas City at the Joint ABS Guild Show and the motion passed.

The Judging for Mastersmith and Journeyman Smith will be in the 12th Street Room on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 8 am.<br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px;">

Harvey Dean will be the ABS Chairman at that time and JS and MS Candidates will need to contact him at least thirty (30) days in advance of September 18, 2015 if they plan to have their presentation knives judged at the ICCE Show.

ABS bladesmiths who plan to be juried for the MS or JS rating at the 2015 ICCE Show in Kansas City, MO on September 18, 2015 need to contact ABS Chairman Harvey Dean at least 30 days prior to advise the ABS that you will be presenting your knives to the Judging Panels. We need to check the ABS membership records in advance and to verify your ABS join date, school attendance date if applicable, dues payment record, and obtain a copy of your Performance Test Certification Form. Chairman Dean will then prepare and certify a list of eligible candidates for the Judging Panels.

For more information please contact Harvey Dean at email [email protected] or 512-446-3111
