Any salt potters out there have a recommendation for a make/model of solenoid and PID controller for a high temp salt pot? (I'm planning to use a T-Rex venturi burner to heat it.)

Hi Steve!

I'm not sure if its appropriate to post the links here, but since it's helping someone, I'll do it, and if I'm violating anything, Dan can change/remove it.

I buy my PIDs from a source on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/350384161137?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

The thermocouples, I purchase here: http://www.omega.com/pptst/JTIN.html

The Gas valve I use is: http://www.honeywellparts.com/v4046c1047-solenoid-pilot-gas-valve.html

Here's a really good deal on one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Honeywell-V4046C-1047-Pilot-Gas-Valve-10-PSI-NIB-/140931121195

Finally, here'e a link to one of my webpages about my salt tank: http://www.caffreyknives.net/bsteel.htm

Hope that's helpful!

Thanks Ed,

That's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. I see it's all on your website, with the wiring diagram and everything. Thank you, thank you.

Got everything ordered but the thermocouple--I see you use the 12" ss...any particular type of SS? And it looks like you have the larger diameter thermocouple...1/4?

I'm assuming one would use the ungrounded tip...is that correct?

Sorry for the beginner questions. I'm working on my electronics skills...

Again, thanks for your help.

Steve

Hi Steve!

The numbers you want to input at the bottom of the omega.com page are as follows:

(1) "K for Type K"

(2) "SS for Stainless steel" (Holds up great in the salt tank, and is less expensive then the other types)

(3) "14 for 1/4 Inch" (you can use any size, but I've found the 1/4" last the longest...and you can gently bend them to a 90 degree angle)

(4) "U for Ungrounded" (this type just has two wires... one red, and one yellow that connect to the thermocouple posts on the back of the PID)

(5) "12 for 12 Inch" (Cheaper then the other lengths, and is plenty for a salt tank)

Those numbers should bring up a price of $22.
