It looks like the only way I can purchase low temp salts from Houghton ( Draw Temp 275 ) is to buy a 400 pound drum. The cost looks like it will be around $3 a pound. I am trying to figure out whether anyone else needs salts and would like to split this order up a bit.

I would if I hadn't stocked up for the long haul not too long ago, and the low temp stuff lasts a VERY long time with what us bladesmiths do.

For anyone that might be interested.

I am working with Houghton on the price of a 400 pound drum ( their minimum purchase for salts ) of their Draw temp 275 salts. If I can get the price where I can afford it and there are a few other people who are interested in buying the 300 or so pounds I don't need, I will make the purchase. I can send the salts out to those who want them via UPS and will take plenty with me to the Mid-America Bladesmithing Expo in late Aug.

So far it looks like the price will be around $3 a pound. I am not looking to make money on this deal just get some low temp salts.

Once I get a final price, which should be early this week, I will post more info here.

Seth, if you plan on shipping it to anybody, I would hate to see you get too far into a situation only to find the true difficulties when it is too late. Be certain you have copies of the MSDS sheets for each batch you will ship. Be certain that you can put it in a clean, new container that meets the shippers requirements. And be certain that any special fees or added costs of shipping nitrate/nitrite salts are not a problem. I only say this because I ran into this snag trying to ship HT oils to folks who wanted part of my barrels years ago. I was able to deliver much of it at the Mid- America myself though, so that is a good idea <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//wink.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> .

Well it looks like the final cost will be $3 a pound and I cannot purchase less that 400 pounds.

I have the product sheet from Houghton if anyone would like to see it.
