[left]The knife in the video was forged alongside the students by Master Smith and instructor Kevin Harvey for the mock-up performance test on the last day of the Introduction to Bladesmithing course at Heavin Forge School. The 5160 carbon steel blade was normalized three times after forging, had the tang annealed for drilling, was edge hardened in 22 second oil then tempered three times in the tempering oven at 210 degrees C with a deep freeze cycle after the first temper. The resulting hardness on the cutting edge was ± 57 Rockwell C.
Master Smiths Kevin and Heather Harvey are the instructors at the Heavin Forge School in Belfast, South Africa offering bladesmithing courses approved by the American Bladesmith Society.
