I am looking to buy a setup with a handheld digital thermometer and a probe thermocouple that I can put in the forge. I used to have one...long story.

I will put the thermocouple in the forge and compare the color to my blade to austenitize prior to austempering.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Robert!

It's not handheld, but I have a "how to" on my website for building your own for the forge.....

Matthew which type do you recommend from the Sheffield pottery link? The ones I have been using don't last very long at welding temps.

Thanks Barry

the one i have has a inconel sheath that seems to hold up pretty well and we can use it in the hightemp salts as well. I called and asked what model would work best but I dont remember what that was...
