Awhile back I started a thread called "The Case of the Missing Ashi." I received a lot of good advice and thank you all. I just finished this 1075 single guard bowie and I think I'm on my way. This was ground to .030" prior to quenching - austenitized at 1455 for five minutes and performed an interrupted quench by three seconds in, three seconds out, eight seconds in, then clamped in my quench plates. Pretty active hamon following the clay which is what I wanted to achieve. The major grinds were hollow ground on a large diameter platen. There was minor warpage but it came out after the second temper cycle with no straightening necessary.
My next one is going to employ the Karl B. Andersen method: "You've got to play with it." I'm going to try a couple different 1075 austenitization temperatures per John Doyles recommendation: 1485/5 minute soak and 1520/1-2 minute soak. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a hamon like John's Wedding Knife? <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//rolleyes.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Again, thank you all for your gracious sharing of experience.

Good looking knife TK. And congrats on the hamon, nice activity. I do Aldo's 1075 at 1485 and soak for two to three minutes then quench in parks. You can get some really nice activity and the line follows the clay pretty close. Good job.

Thanks Brion - I'll give 1485 a try on the next batch of 1075 I have coming in from Aldo.
