I was just wondering what oils every one uses to edge quench. I only ask because as every one knows flame ups are not good for the life of your quenchants. And I am debating on buying a true quench oil as I am using peanut oil right now. Thanks in advance for any help!

Justin, you are correct about the ill effects on proper quench oil of edge quenching. I would advise an inexpensive substitute that you can regularly replace. Due to the difficult problems posed by the edge quench method in thermal dynamics I would suggest the fastest substitute you can get, for this canola oil would be best. It is quick, it is non-toxic, and it is cheap. Peanut oil gained popularity, particularly for edge quenching, due to its higher flash point, but it also has a significantly slower heat extraction rate.

Thank you for clearing that up for me Mr. Cashen. Oh and thank you for your presentation at the Expo in San Antonio. It cleared up a lot of confusion on my part.
