I am building a knife using rings of horse leather on the handle. I was wondering if anyone has done this before and what problems were encountered! What do you treat the leather with? I built a vacuum/pressure chamber and am thinking of using Minwax wood stabilizer on the handle. Does anyone have any comments on trying this? Any recommendations or suggestions??

i used cow hide and i took a old 1 3/8" hole saw and ground off the teeth and then went to the sander and sharpened it so i could cut the disc's i needed for the handle, then i took a 3/4" slot punch and punched the slot for the handle, when i got it all put together i soaked it in bee's wax and raw linseed oil. i heated it and let it soak in it for about 4 hours,it works great.

Thanks Ron! I tried a neatsfoot oil soak after I finished, but I am not real happy with the results. I have some iron rub I made up last year with beeswax and linseed oil. I will heat that up and try it. Thanks! again for the response!
