This is fantastic information. I got a checkering book last year that I started going through after seeing I think one of Ben Seward's knives. He suggested the book along with I believe the Dembart master checkering kit. For some reason, every time I check Brownell's, they're always out of stock... I really like tastefully done checkering and texturing on handles. It's not something very common and can really add to a knife. But, it can be a bit intimidating with all the choices of tools, etc. Thanks for taking some of that guess work out of it.
It would be really interesting to be able to see some WIPs of processes like these, but I know there's a lot of time that goes into all of that. Tim-can you suggest some woods or other materials that work well with checkering? And maybe some to stay away from?

I am glad you asked about wood, the best I have used and try and use it all the time for checkering is African blackwood. It cuts clean like plastic, I use a regular pencil to draw the lines and borders and it shows up well.

Gary I may take you up on that when I start to attempt it. Landon
