The Topic of the Month for July 2015, is Methods of Fluting Dagger Handles. Actually, this thread can be used to discuss any aspect of making a fluted and wire wrapped dagger handle, such as required for the ABS Mastersmith test.

Subjects for the discussion can be; selection of suitable handle material. Number of flutes. Methods for laying out the spirals for the fluting. Do you cut the flutes first, or the wire grooves first? Tools for cutting flutes and wire grooves. How do you fasten the wires in the ends of the handle? Plus any other important details of making these type handles, that are required to pass the MS test.

Below is a link to a thread on this forum, where my process for making a dagger handle is posted.

Thanks for starting this topic, Steve.

I hope those who share their methods will also list and/or show tooling and how their tooling is used.

So, c'mon you MS-folks - pull out your photos and help us out.

Unfortunately, I do not see any MS takers to help out but Master Smith Steve Culver's tutorial above is very well done and a great guide.
