Hello,

I took some scrap pieces of leather and stacked them together on a 3/8" dia eye bolt.

I then ran it through my stabilizing system. The same system I use for stabilizing wood.

The result and more information is on the bottom of my Tutorial Web Page

www.erniesknives.com

For use on any style through hidden tang knife handle

I tried to do that but as always failed to get the pictures added.

Hello,

I added a slightly curved block of sabilized leather .

There are some difficulties involved. I continue to work on their correction.

Even if you stabilize the leather using this process ...you can add dye. The ones I made I used a light brown color dye and the polished it.

Bottom of this page.

Tutorial

I tried some rough filework on stabilized leather. I dyed and polihed it to see what it looks like.

I like it 🙂

Ernie, Do you buff the leather after you get finished sanding? Do you further wax or seal it? Thanks

Lin,

Thank you for the questions

Ernie, Do you buff the leather after you get finished sanding? Do you further wax or seal it? Thanks

I finish sanded the blocks down to 400 grit...Just to take the 36 grit marks out from removing the excess material

I buffed it after it was finishd.

If you want to add some Leather dye..... do it before you buff it. I used a semi-loose buffing wheel with white rouge

After I buffed it I used some wax....Just Pledge wax or a clear paste wax.

Use whatever you use for wood or any other type of handle material.

Why you can add some dye I will explain later.

I have added a new Web Page to my Web Site. It's name is Stabilized Leather

The steps for stabilizing wood for knife handles are OK.

However for leather there are necessary added steps...

Right now I am shooting for two additional areas ...leather slab handles and some handle shaping.

Future also, after you use this stabilized real leather handle material you will be able

to inlay a SS/brass/Nickel Silver oval and etch the customers Initials into it to help personolize the knife

He/She just bought from you.

I will know more after I try the ideas. I have tried some rough filework....I'm impressed with the way it looked

I like the way the leather is turning out mostly because it is a natural handle material

This stabilizing is not the same as the sealing used for Leather sheaths. That sealer is better from a Leather Supply store

Thank you sir.

I would post a picture but again the resizing process is so frustrating I cant seem to get it done today. I'll try again as I get more time.

Stabilized Slab Handle Stacked LeatherHi,

The bottom of the page is my first try witht a full stabilized stacked leather full tang knife handle.

I did not fully polish/buff the knife handle to help the picture taking....less shine
