Hello,
The Test Antlers are Moose antler on the right and cleaned Axis Deer Antler on the left.
Both have unknown age. There is very little color definition in the Axis Deer Antler
There is some color definition on the Moose Antler slabs. The Moose antler piece was cut apart
for a knife slab handle. The finished antlers have been dyed and Stabilized. The process/steps are still being improved.
The possibilities are enormous for knife handles. The stabilized end will polish and shine.
It could easily be left alone for the end of the knife handle. These Antlers were lightly buffed.
If you buff or lightly burnish, use Scotch Bright , the Antler pattern will show more definite. This will also give a darker background in the Antler pattern. It is similar to the Stag stroking a tree or an opponent.
The Axis Deer Antler was donated as a test piece by
Custom Knifemaker, Lowell Bray, J.S.
